My daughter is 21 and moved to Winter Park recently. She has been a Sage client in South Florida for many years. Now that she is out on her own and trying to make her own way in life, she scheduled an appointment to have her teeth cleaned for the first time at the Winter Park location.

At the end of the consultation, 5 employees surrounded her as she was laying in the dental chair and told her she would need to cough up $1200 for a deep cleaning and to have her retainer glued. They told her they would not be able to clean her teeth until she paid for the deep cleaning. She is a college student, with dental insurance, who is trying to take care of herself. Not once did her Sage dentist in Boca Raton ever tell her she needed a deep cleaning.

She felt overwhelmed and wanted to cry because she does not have $1200 and there were 5 people standing over her telling her she must do this deep cleaning. So she left and is now fearful of ever going to the dentist again. Good job, Sage.

I've never had a more dishonest, "only after your money" vibe at any establishment. I went in for a cleaning. After xrays, they said I needed a "deep cleaning" procedure - not covered by insurance and very expensive (over $1,100).They said they couldn't even do a normal clean until the deep clean was performed. It felt scammy, but I signed up for carecredit since they were so pushy and they're the professionals, right? Ultimately, I decided I didn't trust them and changed dentists. The new dentist said my teeth were fine and performed a standard cleaning. I asked Sage for a refund for the unused portion of my carecredit (the second half of the deep clean) but they said I had to contact carecredit for a refund. Carecredit says I have to contact Sage. I'm stuck, out of pocket, and highly disappointed in Sage.

0-stars if I could, staff was friendly but deceptive and seemed to be grifting for more money. Context: I went here for a dental cleaning which requires a Pre-Cleaning meeting now. At this meeting, they analyzed my teeth and said I needed a “deep cleaning” that was so intense it would require numbing/localized anesthesia because they said I had a low level of gum disease. I did not believe this, but wanted to get a cleaning so I requested to schedule a normal cleaning anyways and they refused. I went to a different dentist and was told there was nothing wrong with my gums. They tried to upcharge me by hundreds of dollars that my insurance wouldn’t pay for something I didn’t have. Very untrustworthy.

Don’t go here. They are very unprofessional and dishonest. The receptionist was on her phone while speaking to me. Lied about my insurance not covering the cost, but my insurance company confirmed that it should. From the experience I had today I can tell they are money grabbers and some unlucky people may fall for this.

Do yourself a favor and don’t bother scheduling appointments here. They canceled on me two times Despite sending half a dozen reminders that I needed to show up . The second time I walked into the office and apparently the dentist couldn’t show up to work. Judging from the remarks of the receptionists, it appears that Dr. Fernandez must do this quite often. I took the morning off of work for no reason. Thanks for wasting my time Dr Fernandez. Maybe somebody needs to text you a dozen times to remind you to show up for work in the morning.

The bill I received did not correspond to the patient portion that was reported to my insurer; I was charged about $100 more than was submitted to my insurer.

The staff also, and remember this is a Dentists office, laughed at me for moving my tongue around my mouth and making a weird face. As if they don't see people doing that all day; this was funny to them and warranted having a little laugh with me about it.

They were not happy to discuss my bill with me, did not refund me for the duplicate charges I pointed out to them, embarrassed me a little bit, and submitted billing paperwork that was not accurate.

I don't think this is a very good dental practice.

I will continue going to Sage Dental as they have my long dental history and I don’t want to start from scratch elsewhere, but they could improve in many ways. Being the first patient with an appointment at 8 am, I would expect to be seen immediately. Yet, I sat in the waiting room for 15 minutes until I was called back. I make an effort to be there on time, I would expect no less from a service I am paying for. Furthermore, at that hour, it sounds like social hour amongst the staff. It just doesn’t set a very professional nor peaceful environment for patients. Upon checkout, I asked for an itemized bill of my past visits and noticed I was charged a broken appointment fee of almost $25. I never broke an appointment. I asked the front office rep to look into it and she was able to credit it back. Its’s just frustrating that you have to be on top of this instead of trusting that they are doing their jobs correctly.

Dr De La Riva and the Sage winter Park Team was so very kind and met my expectations as a new patient.
I am so happy to continue my dental program in the future. Very nice and clean office too!
